PA Opening day of Trout 2015

For the opening day of trout, Vinny and I (Adam) went to two different locations. I decided to go bass fishing in Erie with my uncle, while Vinny went for trout at his camp with Aaron. I went to Thompson bay in Presque Isle, Erie. The water there is still pretty cold due to the ice remaining out on the main lake, so the bass weren't very active and it showed because I only had about two hits with no fish to end the day. I did however find something you don't see everyday in the bay. As I was walking around the shore, I spotted a 30 inch dead bowfin laying along the shore. This was my first time ever seeing a bowfin in person so I was shocked!

I (Vinny) and Aaron went up to my camp for the opening day of trout this year! We decided to start at Sugar Run Creek. It was a while before we got our first fish but when I did feel that tug on my line I knew it was a big fish. The first fish of the day was a beautiful 19 inch rainbow that I caught on a salmon egg!

The action picked up more as the day progressed. We ended up fishing 3 different creeks total; Sugar Run Creek, Chapel Fork Creek and the South Branch of Kinzua Creek. I ended up catching 5 rainbow trout with the biggest being the first fish of the day and Aaron caught 3 rainbow trout as well. All these trout were either caught on a Mike's Salmon Egg or Salmon Peach Powerbait.

First time on the river 2015

Hello fellow fisherman! Sunday afternoon we tried our luck with some river fishing for the first time this year. Adam, Aaron, and I (Vinny) brought in a total of 8 carp on the day at the New Brighton Dam. To be honest, I really didn't think we were going to catch anything since the Beaver River was muddy and running pretty fast. We were using sweet corn as bait on circle hooks. Up to this day we have never tried corn and it ended up producing greatly. The biggest catch of the day was an 8 pounder pulled in by Adam.

Aaron hooked into the longest fish of the day and of course I forgot to hit record on the camera until we managed to land the fish. He landed the fish on 6 pound test line and a medium action rod. Unfortunately, later on Adam hooked into a large carp and I went to move my rod out of the way and snagged his line and snapped it. ADAM WAS FURIOUS! Anyways, good luck guys, tight lines, and stay HOOKED!

Great Day at Brady's Run

Two days ago, Vinny and I (Adam) decided to try Brady's Run for some preseason trout fishing. I was looking forward to using my new Quantum Ultra-Light for the first time.
We got to the park around 8am and started fishing the middle of the stream that flows directly into the lake. We threw trout magnets and pink powerbait worms and it wasn't too long until Vinny reeled in a nice little rainbow. Then the fishing slowed down so I decided to change my approach while Vinny tried some different parts of the stream.
I ended up switching to my one "go-to" bait for trout fishing... That is Salmon Peach Glitter Powerbait! After I threw that on a hook with one split shot as weight, I was sure I'd get into some trout. I casted out close to a branch in the water by a deep hole. Within 5 minutes I had something tugging my new Ultralight rod towards the water. I quickly ran over and reeled in a nice rainbow. I continued doing this for about 2 hours and ended up catching 7 rainbow trout. Then we switched spots and I caught one more on a spinner. While I was doing this, Vinny tried the whole section of stream coming up empty handed...

I had to leave at 11am but Vinny stayed and fished the whole afternoon. He fished his fly rod with different nypmhs and caught one rainbow and a nice sucker.

Then after the fishing slowed, he finally decided to switch to powerbait and ended up landing 5 more fish. All in all, we had a very successful day out at Brady's Run park catching 16 fish in all.

Fly Fishing Fail...

Hey everybody, it was a slow day out on the water today. Adam and I (Vinny) went for a fly fishing trip on the Slippery Rock Creek in Western PA. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission recently stocked the creek with brown and rainbow trout on Thursday, March 26. I knew that due to the recent stocking that there would be an abundance of fish in the creek.
Recently, I began tying my own flies so I was eager to try them out... Today just wasn't our day though. We tried everything from dry flies and nymphs to streamers and worms with nothing producing fish. Freshly stocked trout are harder to catch with flies and other imitations because they aren't used to feeding on those kind of creatures yet. This week for our weekly upload on YouTube, we will be recapping our awesome ice fishing season! So go check out our new video and don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel! New "GoPro" mounts

Today, I (Adam) decided to build some easy do it yourself "GoPro" mounts. The reason I put GoPro in quotation marks is because we use an SJ400 instead of a GoPro. The SJ400 is the same thing as a GoPro when it comes to quality and versatility. By getting an SJ4000, we got the same as we would for a GoPro but for a lot less money.
Anyways, I built a floating tripod mount and a 3.5 foot pole mount today.

Each of these mounts were made using 1/2" PVC pipe. The floating mount also required a pool noodle which enables it to float. I also spray painted the PVC black so they'do look better. We can't wait to try these mounts out in our future videos, so stay tuned! Until next time, stay hooked!

Preseason Trout Fishing!

Hey guys! We just wanted to fill everyone in on our fishing adventure today. Today, we went to the Zelienople Harmony Sportsman's Club and had a good afternoon! We were able to land 8 nice fish. Adam ended up landing six fish, and I,(Vinny), landed two while missing three. Although I did hook into the biggest fish of the day, a 20+ inch rainbow!

All of the fish that we managed to land were decent size, and somehow we were able to get most of them on film. If you haven't yet go check our YouTube channel and you will get to see the beginning of our open water adventures for 2015.

Shenango Dam soon... Hopefully

It's finally starting to warm up here in Western Pennsylvania, which means open water fishing is just around the corner! We're hoping to head up to Sharpsville and fish Shenango Dam as soon as we can. A friend of ours recently went up to the Dam on March 16th. When he got there they only had three slouses (gates) open to 1 foot each. These were perfect conditions for getting into some fish! He caught 4 trout and 2 walleye in about an hour then a siren went off, announcing a rise of water was about to come. All at once they opened every gate to their maximum level which flooded the area with the water rising. After this raise, the fish stopped biting... Hopefully the water will lower soon so we can get up there and get into some trout, walleye and maybe even a Muskie! Stay tuned to our YouTube for the action!

Until next time, good luck on the water!
